Title: “Three Phases of Global History: Assessing the Field from a Journal Editor's Perspective”

Abstract: As a co-editor of Journal of Global History (JGH) since 2019, I’ve seen from the inside how scholars themselves are defining and trying to practice global history. This presentation will suggest that a critical institutional perspective on global history more broadly can provide evidence of what global history ultimately has and has not become. While diverse early career scholars continue to embrace global history and publish successfully in the journal, for example, submissions and publications from scholars based around the whole world remain a challenge. As we consider key questions like how to globalize further the writing and practice of global history, an institutional perspective offers ways to understand the infrastructure of global history, its practitioners, and its themes.
